Humanity & Social Sciences Communications publishes our work “Social links vs. language barriers: decoding the global spread of streaming content”.

Summary

This research examines the social and cultural factors influencing the global distribution of content across Spotify, Netflix, and YouTube. By analyzing data from these major streaming platforms, we show that audio-oriented content (Spotify) tends to travel primarily through social links, whereas video-oriented content (Netflix) is heavily filtered by language barriers. Furthermore, the study identifies YouTube as having a unique dual characteristic that integrates both visual and auditory elements, evolving into a distinct medium rather than a simple midpoint.
